The Florence Police Department says that on November 27th, officers responded to an assault call at an apartment on Mill Ridge Drive. Officers located a female that stated she was struck in the head with a hammer and the offender had already left. The female had injuries consistent with a hammer strike.
After further investigation a suspect, Joanna Welborn, was developed. According to the victim, Joanna Welborn was an acquaintance that asked her for some
pain medication. As the victim retrieved her medication Welborn hit her in the head with a hammer. A struggle broke out and the victim was able to get away and lock herself in a bedroom. Several pills were taken by Welborn and she left the apartment. The victim said she then called police.
Investigators contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and requested them to attempt to contact Welborn at a residence in their jurisdiction. They located
